Self Drive Tours
We invite you to consider our unique “self drive” package.
We arrange your car hire/rental plus start you off with an introduction day.
Our “introduction day” starts with collecting you from the airport and travelling to accommodation we arrange for you in Co. Sligo.
On the way we will extend our hospitality with a visit to our
Tintean Clairseach cottage and centre. Along with lunch or
snack and refreshments
we will present tips for getting the
most from your Self Drive tour. You may also enjoy ritually commencing your Ireland visit with some time using our Trinity Labyrinth.
During the following morning we will offer to take you to our local Carrowkeel Cairns, one of the most spectacular ancient sites of Ireland high above the Bricklieve Mountains. There is a dirt track we can drive up to reach these sacred places amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland.
Not only will you experience a spiritual gentleness here but on a good day will be able to enjoy a view up to half of Ireland
After returning for lunch we will provide you with a set of information, guide books and maps and drive you to pick up your hired/rented car from nearby Knock Airport.
planning your itinerary ……
We will discuss your interests and what you would like to experience in Ireland. We will then guide your itinerary to introduce you to places you may not have heard of or seen in guide books that we believe will excite you. Also, we will show you where these places are on road maps, show you photos and even film clips.
Some folks tell us they would prefer the adventure of just driving aimlessly and finding available guest houses on the way. Unfortunately, the initial romance of this free adventure
can soon end up being a lot of wasted time
looking for things,
being stressed by being lost and struggling to find accommodation, and then finding out about places they missed yet passed so close by.
A vacation in Ireland can often take a lot of saving up for, so an important part of our job is to help you get the best value, as well as best experience, from the money you invest in your vacation.
Our service is designed to help you keep stress low, ensure you enjoy a genuine restoring vacation and surprise yourself with
what you actually see
and experience.
Also, by starting your car hire/renatla from Knock Airport you can enjoy a quiet introduction to our roads rather than be thrown into the scary lion’s den of lively Dublin traffic.
It does not matter if you fly into Dublin Airport as we will collect you from there, plus you can also return your car to Dublin at the end of your vacation.
accommodation ……
We can advise and book accommodation for you that suits your tastes and budgets. It is beneficial to book accommodation as far ahead of your vacation as you can as this will ensure the best deals in the best accommodation that suits your budget and needs. Having said that, this is a type of vacation that can also be assembled with very short notice.

How rates are calculated:
Let explain these rates further …..
car hire/rental + fuel
For two people, a compact car can he hired/rented for around €26 per day, including insurance and both travellers as named drivers. That’s only €13 each per day. Fuel that you will use will be around €40 a day at current Ireland prices, i.e. €20 each per day.
If more than two of you travel together, even hiring/renting a bigger car, suv or people carrier, you could bring these prices per person down even further!
guest house rates
An average country guest house rate in Ireland is currently €40 per person sharing, but outside of late June, July and August we can often find €30 a night per person deals. Good advance booking is essential, though.
Sometimes you may wish for four or five star for a night or two,
or even the
entire vacation. Its totally up to you, your desires
and your budget. You may enjoy a night or two in a castle, for example.
We will only charge you accommodation rates as they quoted to us and arrange bookings as a complementary service within our Self Drive Tour package
evening meals and lunches
Evening meals and lunches are not included in our Self Drive Tour package prices. For your useful budgeting information we can advise that evening meals range from €20 to €30 each in a bistro style restaurant, €40 to €60 each in Ireland’s wonderful fine dining restaurants or simply about €7 each for traditional fish n’ chips. You can buy a good cafe lunch for around €10 or get a terrific take out deli sandwich and beverage for around €5.
D.I.Y picnics are fun with Irish food from supermarkets being quite affordable. We recommend the German owned Lidl supermarkets where their produce and deli items are of
very high quality yet low priced. They only accept cash, though,
and no credit cards. They have easy to drive in car parks too.
One top of this you’ll spend on gifts for home, entertainment beverages, admission fees, and personal items. Overall, if you prepare a total budget of €2000 per person, you’ll probably still go home with some change. For the kind of vacation you’ll have, you will find this type of Ireland adventure to be extremely good value.
