"The Traveller's
Guide to Sacred Ireland:
A Guide
to the Sacred Places of Ireland"
by Cary
Meehan
A wonderful field book I use on my travels
and the best sacred sites guide book dedicated to Ireland. It is a little
heavy as there is so much within.
It is incredibly well organized with
colour codes for regions, helpful small maps that work well with OS maps
and lovely black and white photography throughout. The only downside is
that it does feature a lot of sites on private land and often gives the
impression they have public access.
Use this in conjunction with polite
and considerate permission from farmers and you'll find this incredibly
useful. Easy reading. Not too deep.

"Anam Cara:
Spiritual
Wisdom from the Celtic World "
by John
O'Donohue
Anam Cara, meaning "Soul Friend" is
a book that is a song that we all seek to be sung. It shows how to find
the divinity within ourselves, our own individuality and uniqueness, how
to recognize this within others, and how to unite to make the sparks fly.
Reading this book causes us to look
at the structures that starve our being from being and inspires us and
guides us into breaking these structures, to actually become closer to
others than any structure can achieve.
As someone said, this is also a perfect
book to read by a blazing turf fire while the sidhe chatter and wail in
the wind.

"The Dead Poets
Society"
by Nancy
H. Kleinbaum, and this
is the latest 2002 edition
Quite a distance away from our Celtic
themes yet very close to our themes of uniting and growing close to God
through our own individuality rather than conforming to an order that promises
fulfillment. Like our offer of writing workshops to encourage the awakening
of ourselves, Dead Poet's Society uses poetry as the awakening, "Carpe
Dium - Seize The Day"
This is the book that was behind the
famous film with Robin William as the English teacher John Keating who
challenged his pupils to make their lives unique and free of constraints
and expectations. Inspired by Keating, the boys resurrect the Dead Poets
Society where they let their passions run wild to the great words of Byron,
Shelley, and Keats, they discover not only the beauty of language, but
the importance of making each moment count. |
