"Finding Brighid"
our goddess tour exploring the incarnations of Brighid in Ireland
This is a new tour that we are introducing from August until the end of this year, and then through all of 2008 and beyond
We commence by exploring the stories of goddess Brighid of the Tuatha De Dannan and explore sacred sites dedicated to her around what has since become the Bréifne region.
During the later Celtic years, Brighid was present with the name of Cailleach Bearra who by legend was stolen at birth by the “fairies” to become a protective goddess of the nation, so we explore beautiful sites and paths linked with Bearra.
Our tour journey concludes at Kildare with reflections and celebrations honouring the life, work, protection and healing of early Christian St. Brigid.
This vacation is available all year round.
You can book for as many days that interest you.
We can arrange your entire all Ireland vacation.
To provide more insight into this tour …….
Our first day commences our with a visit to Brigit’ Garden in Co. Galway. Here you can experience a wonderful introduction to the four celebrations of ancient Ireland that are expressed through a beautiful garden and sculpture combination. Here you will cut reeds and be shown how to create your own Brigid Cross to protect and guide you through your tour and beyond.
We then travel through Bréifne, counties Sligo, Leitrim and Cavan, starting Morrigan’s home of Ceis Coarran mountain in Co. Sligo. Morrigan was mother to Brighid. We include visits to some sacred wells and the Brighid healing stones at Killinagh.
Our journey then moves into the era of Cailleach Bearra and the mysterious Carbane Hills of Loughcrew, Co. Meath that are famous for their ancient passage cairns full of ancient art. We then take a long journey to Co. Kerry to the incredibly beautiful Bearra Peninsula. I feel this is the most spectacular part of Ireland but is little known due to its narrow road network preventing tour buses from visiting. We can visit as we transport you in minibuses that travel and turn well down these roads.
Finally, we arrive at Kildare to honour the Christian St. Brigid at the church now on the site of her abbey and by her sacred well. Where possible we invite the Kildare Brigidine Sisters to be your guide.
For those of you who can stay an extra day, we will try to arrange an additional pilgrimage to Faughart Hill, Co. Louth, said to be the birthplace of St. Brigid.
